The New Forest Pony Breeding and Cattle Society hosted an international meeting for fellow New Forest daughter studbook societies with visitors from Denmark, France, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Belgium and Holland, which concluded with a foal and yearling show at Ford Farm, Brockenhurst on Sunday 25 October. Entries were invited to take part after qualifying at this year’s breed show. Mrs Pat Campbell was the judge for the day which commenced with the Colt class and which was won by Trenley Tamarillo, bred by James Young and Trudy Nineham, ahead of a charming roan colt Burley Toy Soldier owned by Lisa Dunning.

June Whitham’s well-grown filly, Woodrow After Eight, who has been virtually unbeaten this season, won the filly class. After Eight is out of Mrs Whitham’s successful mare Woodrow Delight’s Double and by Farriers Fingerprint. Second was another foal from James Young’s stable, Brock Bardot. Both Bardot and Tamarillo are by Willoway Double Gold. Third place was Lovelyhill Hubble Bubble, a long-awaited filly from the stud’s foundation mare Yewtree On High, by Applewitch Pure Magic. The Foal Championship was awarded to Woodrow After Eight, and the Society’s President Mr Jim Haynes presented a special plaque to the winner.

John and Wendy Adams from the Hollybrooke Stud had reason to celebrate after not only winning the yearling gelding class with Hollybrooke Ginger but also the yearling filly class with Hollybrooke Dazzle. Both ponies are by Burley Branston, the stud’s successful dressage sire. Pat Campbell commented how both ponies exhibited good amounts of bone. Second in the filly class was Ashley Athena, owned by Mr & Mrs Dibdin and produced by Julia Ryde Rogers. Mr and Mrs Dibdin hope that she will be shown under saddle and consider her an “Olympia pony” of the future. Third was a typey bay filly, Cuffnells Royal Fern, owned by Wendy Fromm and Forest-bred by Lyndsey Stride, shown by Malcolm Fry.
