BREED SHOW - 23rd-25th August 2008 Stallion Show Report

The Stallion Show held at New Park Brockenhurst had the best day of the bank holidays weather and competitors were treated to that rare phenomenon, sunshine. The Forest run stallions classes were as usual full of quality entries, many of which belied the fact that they had been running on the forest all summer which large groups of mare, busy covering. Malcolm Fry had an unenviable job in choosing his line, many of which were past Champions. His winner for the first class was Lovelyhill High Jack a 10 year old blue roan stallion by Okedene Peter ahead of Jonathan Gerelli’s Bransgore Sovereign.

In the large forest run stallion class Michael Maton’s Bakeburn Jethro won ahead of his field mate Brookshill Brumby also owned by Michael Maton. Bakeburn Jethro stood overall forest run champion Stallion. A repeat of his 2005 success. The Forest Bred Champion Stallion was awarded to Lovelyhill Highjack with Longcopse Elton in reserve. The 2 and 3 year old colt class for forest run colts was well filled with Mrs Sandra Kilfords 3yo stud bred colt Furzley Marinaide collecting the red ribbons, looking  in top condition with no hints that he had been on the forest covering all season. The best 2 yo cup was awarded to Miss Honor Humble’s Lovelyhill High exchange who also collected the Centaur cup for the highest placed young commoner.

With only 3 entries forward in the forest run yearling colt class Mrs Carol Lovell’s smart chestnut colt Warren Play-on looked a winner from the start of the class and stood reserve youngstock Champion to Furzley Marinade.

In East ring B the stud stallion classes were being judged under the watchful eye of Mrs Bown, who chose Fiona King’s stallion Fijal Jupiter as her winner. This was a great achievement for the Green Cottage Stud as Jupiter is only 4 years old and beat some seasoned campaigners in the guise of Farriers Finger print 2nd and the reining New Forest Show Champion Willoway Minstral in third. Fijal Jupiter went on to take the overall Stallion Championship.

Sandra Kilford’s winning ways continued with her home bred Furzley Accolaide taking the 2 and 3 year old class and taking the youngstock Stud Stallion Championship.

In the yearling colt class there was a real reshuffle in the placing when Ms Kate Robb’s chestnut colt Knaveash Alchemist was brought up from 5th place to clinch the top spot. This home bred colt has been virtually unbeaten this season, having won at the New Forest Show, Bath and West and the Royal.

The Forest Bred and Forest Run Ridden class was won by the 13 hand Lovelyhill Cranborne Heights, taking the Mockbeggar cup for the 5th Consecutive year. Second was a fresh face in the pack, Mallards Wood Full Monty a smart 4 year old forest bred stallion owned and ridden by Ms Taheri-Sinfield who later collected the Novice Ridden Stallion Championship.
